Scores

Game #1: Bangor Christian @ Milford - 9/14/2010

Game Score: Bangor Christian 2 Milford 1

The game against Bangor Christian was a hard fought battle that saw the Milford Lady Wildcats come up just short on the scoreboard. After giving up two goals early in the first half, the team seemed to settle down and play the kind of defense that will hopefully become a staple of this team. The second half was characterized by great team play on both sides of the ball. The Lady Wildcats defense did not allow a shot on goal throughout the entire second half. The improved defense allowed the team to move the ball up the field more proficiently, which eventually culminated in a goal from Emilee McKay. (Assist Brittany Cousins). After cutting the deficit in half, the Lady Wildcats continued to pressure the Bangor Christian defense, which led to some quality scoring chances late in the game. However the Bangor Christian defense held strong and left Chaisson Field with the 2-1 win. There are many positives to take from this game and hopefully they will carry over into the Lady Wildcats next game on Thursday against Winterport.

Game #2: Milford @ Winterport - 9/16/2010

Game Score: Milford 2 Winterport 1

Today the Lady Wildcats earned their first victory of the season by a score of two to one over a very balanced Winterport team. The Lady Wildcats started their second game the way they ended their first. With strong defense and a relentless energy the team was able to control the flow of the game and in the end garner a positive outcome. The first half was highlighted by many key plays from all facets of the team. There were key saves made by Vicky Goodwin, including a penalty kick save. Bailey DePaola and Tyler Ann Harris did a great job limiting Winterportís offensive chances, and for the second consecutive game Brittany Cousins hard work was able to get the Wildcats on the board.

The second half saw the Wildcats increase the pressure on the Winterport defense, which led to some quality scoring chances. The midfield contributed largely to this increased pressure by consistently moving the ball up the field to our forwards who were able to make some plays on the ball. This pressure culminated in the Lady Wildcats second goal of the game. After a cross from the left hand side of the eighteen-yard line by Brittany Cousins, Savannah Georgia was able to settle the ball and place the ball in the back of net for her first goal of the season. Winterport was able to cut the lead in half with about 2 minutes left, however the Lady Wildcats defense was able to hold strong the remainder of the game and leave the field with the victory. The Lady Wildcats will square off against Orono at Chaisson Field on Tuesday of next week.

Game #3: Orono @ Milford - 9/21/2010

Game Score: Milford 2 Orono 2

On Tuesday the Orono Red Riots traveled to Milford to face the Lady Wildcats in the third game of the season. The game was hard fought throughout the first half with both sides getting quality scoring chances. Finally, a ball was able to sneak through for the home team (Goal Brittany Cousins), and an afternoon of offensive soccer was about to begin. The Lady Wildcat defense continued to keep the ball away from their net, and with about 5 minutes left in the half Brittany Cousins was able to place another ball in the back of the net giving the home team a 2-0 advantage that would carry through the remainder of the first half. The second half saw the away team increase their pressure on the Lady Wildcats defense. After a couple close calls the Riots were able to get to a loose ball in front of the net and cut the deficit to one. About ten minutes later they struck again to even the score and make the game extremely competitive. With momentum on their side it seemed that the away team was destined to score again, but the defense regained their composure and goalkeeper Vicky Goodwin made some key saves to preserve the tie.

The game went to overtime and the Lady Wildcats turned up the intensity with a determination to score the game winner. Strong play from our defense, especially Bailey DePaola and Hailey Saucier allowed for the Lady Wildcats to move the ball up the field. This culminated with Brittany Cousins making an excellent run down the left hand side of the field. Her shot at the game winner hit the post, however the Lady Wildcats were able to keep the ball down in the opponents end the remainder of the game and walk away with the tie. The Lady Wildcats have Thursday off and will return to action a week from today at home.

Game #4: Holbrook @ Milford - 9/28/2010

Game Score: Holbrook 2 Milford 0

Yesterday afternoon the Milford Lady Wildcats resumed their schedule after a bye last Thursday. The game was hard fought, but it was the opponent that left the field with victory. In the first half the girls did a great job of managing their play on the wet field, by making good decisions on pursuing the Holbrook attackers. Unfortunately, a little over half way through the first half the girls had a hand ball called in the box, and for the first time this year an opponent was able to convert on a penalty kick against us. The team responded well however and increased the pressure to close out the half. Brittany Cousins was responsible for most of the offense, including another shot that would go off the post.

In the second half the girls continuued their solid defensive play, only allowing a couple of shots throughout. However, with about 10 minutes gone by in the half a Holbrook player was able to lift a ball from just inside the 18 over our goalies head. The girls again kept their heads up and went back to work pressing the opposing defense, however they were unable to get it by the Holbrook goalie into the net.

Great game by Vicky Goodwin in net. She made some great saves that kept the team in the game for as long as they were. The girls will travel to Orrington on thursday with the goal of moving their record up to 2-2-1.

Game #5: Milford @ Orrington - 9/30/2010

Game Score: Orrington 1 Milford 0

The Lady Wildcats traveled to Orrington on thursday to try and rebound after a tough loss on Tuesday. It was evident early in the game that it would be very competitive. After a few near misses for the opponent the Lady Wildcats were able to mount some pressure and control the midfield for a majority of the latter part of the first half. This pressure would continue into the start of the second half with Alexis Boyington having a shot saved from 10 yards out and Brittany Cousins getting robbed of a goal by the post again. Unfortunately, Orrington was able to break through with a goal midway through the second half, and though the Lady Wildcats continued to make runs down the field, they were not able to find the back of the net. Even though the team left with a loss, I felt it was their best played game, with outsanding efforts from Bailey DePaolo and Tyler Ann Harris on defense, and Heidi King and Malyian Binette at the midfield. I also want to commend Jordyn Lee for going back and forth between forward and midfield throughout the game, and doing a great job playing with in her role at both positions. The Lady Wildacts will look to notch their 2nd win of the season on Tuesday against a very strong Hermon team at Hermon.

Game #6: Milford @ Hermon - 10/5/2010

Game Score: Hermon 7 Milford 1

The Milford Lady Wildcats traveled to Hermon on Thursday and unfortunately ran into a very strong team. While the final score (7-1) was obviously not the outcome the team wanted, there were some bright spots during the game. Brittany Cousins scored her 4th goal of the season, Emily LeClair played very well in the net after replacing Vicky Goodwin, and Jordyn Lee did an excellent job playing sweeper, allowing Bailey DePaolo a chance to move up to offense for a change. While it was obvious the score of the game frustrated the girls, they all kept their heads up and kept going at 100%. The girls next game is at Caravel on Tuesday after we were rained out on thursday. The game that was rained out will be made up on Thursday October 14th at home.

Game #7: Milford @ Caravel - 10/12/2010

Game Score: Milford 1 Caravel 0

The Milford Lady Wildcats earned their second victory of the season in a hard fought game over Caravel. After suffering their third loss in a row to Hermon last week, the girls looked to get back on the right track. After some back and forth play,
and another penalty kick save by Vicky Goodwin, Brittany Cousins was able to break away from the defense and slide the ball past the opponents keeper to give the Lady Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Strong play by Bailey DePaola and Hailey Saucier in the backfield kept the ball away from our net, and the Lady Wildcats were able to finish the half with the 1-0 lead.

The second half was filled with many chances for the Lady Wildcat offense. Savannah Georgia had 1 shot from the six that the keeper for Caravel saved and a great chance on a break away. Those chances were only the beginning of a 10 minute segment where the Lady Wildcats maintained possesion in the opponents end. Through the faciltation of Brittany Cousins, Jordyn Lee was able to score her first goal of the season. After a missed chance moments earlier at a wide open net, Jordyn was able to capitalize on her second chance by placing the ball in the lower right corner of the net. This increased the lead to 2-0 which would end up being enough for the win.

While the opponent was able to increase their pressure on our defense and score a goal to cut the lead in half, our defense was able to hold them off for the last 5 minutes. The Lady Wildcats play their final game on Thursday at home.

Game #8: Glenburn @ Milford

Game Score: Milford 2 Glenburn 1

The Milford Lady Wildcats finished their soccer season on a high note thursday, beating a tough Glenburn team 2-1. The game went back and forth throughout the first half, with each team unable to capitalize on their oppurtunities. Brittany Cousins had a breakaway stopped by the keeper, and Delaney Love was stopped on the goal line after another one of Brittany Cousins shots was saved by the goalpost.

In the second half the girls were able to keep pressure on the opponent and this eventually resulted in two more goals from Brittany Cousins. With the two goal lead Emily McKay took over in net and made some key saves down the stretch to preserve what turned out to be a 2-1 win.

The girls finished the season with a 3-4-1 record. This was the last game for Brittany Cousins, Jordyn Lee, Bailey DePaolo, Savannah Georgia, Malyian Binnette, Heidi King, Emily McKay, Hailey Saucier, Tyler-Ann Harris and Vicky Goodwin. They will be missed next year.
