Mrs. Young’s Students Host Maine Mock Election

October 28, 2016 By tclark

vote3113

Mrs. Young arranged for her 5th and 6th grade Social Studies students to host a school-wide mock election on October 25th.  A part of this unit of study with her students was to arrange for representatives from the offices of Senator Collins, Senator King and Congressman Bruce Poliquin, to come and speak to our students.  Students in Pre-K through 8 cast their votes for President, while grades 5 through 8 voted on the 6 state referendum questions.  Once the voting process was completed, results were tallied by the 5th and 6th grade and results were sent to Augusta.  The results of the Lewis Libby School polls were as follows:

President: Donald Trump 53%, Hillary Clinton 29%, Gary Johnson 8%, Jill Stein 2%

House of Representatives: Bruce Poliquin 56%, Emily Cain 30%

It is interesting to hear a room full of kindergarten students chanting  the names of the winning candidates!  Thank you, Mrs. Young, for creating this great opportunity for our students!
