Mission & Vision
Both the mission and vision statements are under review by the Libby School staff. A significant amount of work has taken place with the review process but unfinished business (such as community and School Committee approval) remains. Below are versions of our work to date.
The mission of the Milford School System is to foster a community of learners who strive for excellence.
A buzz of positive energy is in the air when you walk into the Dr. Lewis S. Libby School.
Learners: Students are independent thinkers driven to investigate and problem solve through their natural curiosity. Students are masters of their own learning, consistently setting, striving for, and reaching personal and academic goals. They are consistently held to high expectations for their behavior and their academics. Students exemplify Wildcat Pride in their support of each other, in their active participation, in the classroom, in extracurricular activities, and in their positive attitudes. Students are excellent examples of respect, responsibility, and caring.
Learning: Learning is always relevant, rigorous, student-centered, developmentally appropriate and aligned to national and state standards. Student interests drive the creation of learning opportunities in and outside of school. These real world learning experiences encourage students to aggressively strive for excellence. Learning experiences are stretched through rich artistic and cultural experiences. Learning is the constant while learning pace and student groupings are the variables. Students thrive in a safe, inviting, and creative learning environment where their opinions, learning styles, and learning needs are valued. State-of-the-art technology and rich resources are available as support for learning. Emphasis is on cultivating creative and critical thinking skills and 21st century skills that prepare students for any future they envision for themselves.
Staff: Teachers are lifelong learners who are passionate about their profession and excited to come to school each day. Teachers work collaboratively, focused on the collective goal of creating a safe, flexible learning environment and utilizing best instructional strategies in response to the needs and interests of students. Learning targets and benchmarks are well defined and follow a clear curriculum continuum that is transparent to all staff and parents. Teachers work together with administration and parents to ensure clear, open communication, regular, timely attendance, and strong support for each other. Teachers engage in multiple professional development opportunities and have ample time to work collectively. Teachers are advanced in up-to-date technology and are well trained in digital resources. Teachers appreciate the transparency of the education process from classroom practices and learning objectives to administrative decision making and policy development.
Parents and Community: Our community of families and businesses are supportive partners highly involved in educating our students for rich, rewarding futures. Members of our community provide students with a rich variety of learning opportunities that encourage students to strive for excellence. In turn, our school is an open, welcoming resource for the entire community.
Students from the Dr. lewis S. Libby School have strong skills and healthy work habits that support them in achieving success in their future pursuits. Students take pride in their learning, their behavior, their community, and themselves. Our Wildcats are strong leaders who are well prepared for life and eager to contribute to their community.

Teachers, administrators, support staff, and community need to form a unified partnership to foster growth opportunities for all students to become lifelong learners and responsible, community-oriented citizens.
