We held our annual Community Reading Day on March 10th at the Dr. Lewis S. Libby School. Those involved have lost track of how many years they have been doing it. All that matters to Mary is that kids are exposed to books in a way that they begin to love them. Mary loves books and reading and wants to share that with our students. Selecting books that she feels will capture the imagination of our students, she then reaches out to our community for those that will volunteer their time to visit and read to our students. Mary also organizes refreshments and a welcome atmosphere for our guest readers. We were very proud of the students that came to meet our guest readers and escorted them to their classrooms. Our guests included approximately twenty-five readers consisting of retired teachers, firefighters, a deputy sheriff, a hospice volunteer coordinator, Dr. Seuss and Willie the Wildcat. Our students enjoy meeting their guest readers and the bookish adventure that they experience with them. One class was even able to see the firetruck. Thank-you, Mary Rustin, for being such a wonderful part of our learning community!
